About Michelle Cuneo

New Moves Director, Michelle Cuneo, is personally involved in the monitoring and development of each New Moves' student and has been since 1986 when the school was established.

Following seven years as a professional dancer, Michelle moved full-time into teaching. She has worked for the Sydney Dance Company, Halliday Dance Arts Sydney and a host of major performing arts schools training students and staging shows in venues including the Sydney Opera House.

After completing post-graduate studies in Dance Education, Michelle moved into lecturing and has been employed by University of Technology Sydney teaching Dance Composition and Teaching Methodology. Michelle is also a trained Pilates instructor and enjoys teaching a wide variety of classes including HSC dance, drama, Latin and ballroom dance, jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary and more.

Over the years, Michelle has been a dancer, choreographer, modelling and theatrical agent and a dance company director. Most importantly, Michelle has been a teacher. It is her passion for teaching and drive to pass on the rewarding lifetime benefits of the arts that has built New Moves into the dance, drama and music studio it is today.

After completing her RAD grade and executant examinations, and many years of training in all facets of dance and theatre, Michelle went on to establish her own performance career appearing on major television stations, theatrical shows, tours and cabaret.

Michelle completed full time dance performance training at the Bodenweiser Dance Centre while working in the commercial dance field and teaching. She studied dance, music and theatre at tertiary level with Kurringai CAE as well as teacher training with the RAD.

The Dance Studio @ Blackwall

Michelle purchased the church at Blackwall in 1988 and transformed the 120 square metre space into a contemporary dance studio with sound system, barres, full length wall mirrors and professional grade dance floor.

Do all Dance Studios offer the Best for Your Child?

Here's Michelle's 7 Secret Strategies for encouraging your child to be their clever, creative and confident best: this is what makes New Moves stand out.
  1. The performing arts engage the whole brain. It takes a lot of skill and co-ordination to sing, dance, act or play an instrument. With every lesson, your child's thinking capacity and physical dexterity is growing and improving.
  2. Classes are expertly structured to deliver the material in an organised and clear way making it easy for your child to master skills and gain confidence.
  3. Our teachers are passionate about their art and love demonstrating their skills & passing on their enthusiasm to your child
  4. Every child is valued for their unique talents, interests and ideas. We use their ideas in class activities and encourage them to share and develop in teams.
  5. Many classes such as drama lend themselves to include learning activities that are fun and help children lose their inhibitions
  6. Our desk staff are always on hand to answer parent enquires and suggest new ways to stimulate your child's development within the many programs we offer.
  7. Children are never forced into participating - instead they are gently coaxed into games or activities that lead them to take the next confident step. Every success is acknowledged and soon even your shy child will be performing solo in front of their class peers. The great choreography, music and material we use motivates students to want to perform in public and show what they have learnt.
